WinXP hosed my system...
After
installing Nero 5.5.5.1 (for a review, no less..oops, Nero!), I lost my DVD-ROM and CD-R drives. Dead. Hardware info says that the registry info for each drive is corrupted. I created a System Restore point just before I installed Nero and when I restore it, XP says that it can't restore the restore point

Turning off the computer without Windows.
I tried to reconstruct my system, which seemed to have been hosed by a bad controller. Lost all the email since September, some of it which had keys for software.. Huge number of documents. Got a new motherboard from Dell. Still couldn't see a boot device. Tried to 'read' the boot drive in an other computer.

Computer will not reboot

ARRGH!! My system is hosed - wont be on for several weeks.

Would booting with the utility diskettes and specifying the /F:3 parameter when running chkdsk help bring my system back to life, or would formatting the drive and reinstalling Warp from scratch be my only recourse? Reinstall Windows

The next time I booted the system, it booted normally and is now usable again. In fact, I'm running the IE7 Beta 3 installer right now. We'll see how this goes... Right click My Computer and choose Properties | Advanced. In the Startup and Recovery section click Settings. Uncheck Automatically restart.

Tell me you can do *this* in Windows
The sound skips during video sequences in most of my games - Diablo, Heroes II, Warcraft II, Dark Forces, etc. 2 of the games bundled with the 3d Blaster don't even work - they hang my system.
